Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) - Understanding and Managing the Condition

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a disorder described by severe fatigue or tiredness that doesn’t disappear with rest and can’t be explained by a fundamental medical condition.

CFS can also be identified as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) or systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID).

The causes of CFS aren’t fully understood yet. Some theories include viral infection, psychological stress, or a combination of factors. It is also important to recognize that most chronic diseases exhibit the symptoms of chronic fatigue and exertion intolerance, which makes this topic universal for everyone to explore.

Because no single cause has been determined, and because many other conditions produce the same symptoms, CFS can be difficult to diagnose.

There are no tests for CFS. Your doctor will have to rule out other reasons for your fatigue when establishing a diagnosis.

While CFS was previously a disputatious diagnosis, it’s now broadly accepted as a medical condition.

CFS can affect anyone, though it’s most common among women in their 40s and 50s. At present, there’s no cure, but treatment can relieve symptoms.

Our Services for Managing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Symptom Management

Many people who are suffering from CFS have already received treatment with different types of medications with limited relief, including:

  • Pain Relief Options
  • Antidepressants
  • Sleep aids as required
  • Adjust treatment as your symptoms grow

Our 7-Week Holistic Nutritional Recovery program is designed to provide strategic nutritional strategies to help you regain your energy and have better control over symptoms of CFS like chronic fatigue, pain, sleep disturbances, and cognitive issues.

Pacing and Activity Management

One of the key elements of CFS management is pacing – learning to balance periods of activity and rest. Overexertion can exacerbate symptoms, so we encourage you to and can assist you  with creating a sustainable routine that hinders burnout. As part of the 7-Week program (live online sessions), our team will guide you in progressively increasing levels when appropriate to enhance stamina and minimize flare-ups.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can take an emotional burden and many individuals experience feelings of anxiety, depression, and frustration. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic approach that is usually recommended to help you manage the mental health aspects of CFS, and you could consult a Psychologist specifically for that, if needed. However, our 7-Week Holistic Nutritional Program is comprehensive, and will help guide you with  changing negative thought patterns and getting to grips with emotional barriers to help improve your overall mental health and battling skills. We explore the topic of complex trauma, which could also affect your physical health and cause fatigue.

Graded Exercise Therapy (GET)

Graded Exercise Therapy (GET) involves a carefully managed moderate increase in physical activity. We understand that physical exertion can be challenging for those with CFS, but GET can help enhance stamina and minimize the impact of fatigue over time. Our team will encourage you to track your progress and adjust the program to satisfy your individual requirements and limits.

Dietary and Lifestyle Support

Nutrition and hydration play an important role in managing CFS symptoms. At TrustyHealth, our 7-Week Holistic Nutritional Recovery program will provide guidance on making a balanced diet that:

  • Supports energy levels
  • Helps reduce inflammation
  • Promotes overall health

We also provide lifestyle support including sleep hygiene tips and stress-reduction strategies to help you optimize your daily routine and minimize symptom flare-ups.

What causes CFS?

The source of CFS is unknown. Researchers reflect that contributing factors may involve:

  • Viruses
  • A weakened immune system
  • Chronic Stress
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Gut dysbiosis

There is a good chance that some people are genetically inclined to develop CFS.

Though CFS can sometimes develop after a viral infection, no single type of infection has been found to give rise to CFS. Some viral infections that have been studied in relation to CFS include those caused by:

  • Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)
  • Human Herpesvirus 6
  • Ross River virus (RRV)
  • Rubella virus

Infections generated by bacteria, involving Coxiella Burnetii and Mycoplasma Pneumoniae, have also been learned in relation to CFS.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Trusted Source has recommended that CFS may be the end stage of multiple different chronic conditions, instead of that one particular condition.

Ongoing Support and Education

Living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can be segregating, but you don’t have to go through it alone. At TrustyHealth, you will have either group online live sessions or on-demand online courses that give you access to a network of other individuals experiencing the same challenges. Even after completion of the 7-Week program, you will retain access to the online community and course materials for 6 months, and your membership is renewable every 6 months, if you choose.  We believe that understanding how nutrition and lifestyle changes can improve CFS and connecting with others who are going through the same experiences can make a huge difference for you.
