But sometimes medication can provide the extra support needed to get started.
Why Some May Choose to Include GLP-1?
Medication may be worth considering when you have:
- Significant weight gain with BMI of 30 or higher
- BMI of 27+ with a weight-related health condition
- Repeated difficulty losing or maintaining weight despite lifestyle efforts
- Significant hunger, cravings, or difficulty controlling appetite
- Repeated cycles of weight loss and regain
- Significant struggles with emotional eating and/or food addiction
- Weight-related health risks that make weight loss more urgent
The goal isn’t medication instead of healthy lifestyle changes.
When appropriate, medication can provide additional support and create space for deeper transformation while you build the habits that support long-term success.
Could GLP-1 Medication Be Right for You?
BMI is only part of the picture. Your physician will also consider your overall health and medical history before recommending treatment.
GLP-1 medications may not be appropriate for everyone, particularly if you:
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2
- Have a history of pancreatitis, severe gastroparesis, diabetic retinopathy, or other medical conditions that may affect whether GLP-1 treatment can be used safely, etc.
Not sure whether you qualify?
That’s okay. Your physician will review your individual medical history and determine which treatment options may be appropriate for you.
